Stimulation and Enablement, through a Comprehensive and Fun Activities Programme, enhances each day within our Home. The Activities Coordinator: Matthew Nankivell plans, delivers and oversees the provision of Resident Activities and Events ensuring that we attend to the Physical, Creative, Emotional, Spiritual, Social and Cognitive needs and wellbeing of our Residents.
There are 2 main Activity slots each Weekday encompassing group and 1:1 provision for all Residents:
ACTIVITY 2: 1/1.30pm
Residents can participate in and enjoy: Bingo, Games, Quizzes, Live Music and Live Singing. We also have an In-House Clavinova and Microphone and Speaker Karaoke equipment. We have: ‘Vinyl of the Week’ with our Record Player and selection of Vinyl Records, Sports and Horse Fixtures, Mini-Football and Snooker and Gardening Club. Our Large Conservatory leading to our Sunny Garden, lends itself to Group Activity Sessions or personal Resident pursuits.
1:1 conversations are undertaken with all Residents regarding their preferences and interests to enhance and personalise the provision of Activities for Residents. Events are organised to celebrate Resident Birthdays, National Days, Sports and other areas of interest. Every effort is made to continue with the Residents’ links with Friends and Family and the local facilities, with Trips and 1:1 support.
We publish a Weekly Activity Programme for all Residents, displayed within the Home so that each Resident may choose how to spend their time each day.
“Beech Haven really does have such a friendly atmosphere – It is like one big Family!”
As part of our Outreach work and Community relationships we have Monthly Reading, Music and Buddy sessions with Pupils and their Teachers from the Local Primary and Secondary Schools who visit our Residents.
A ‘Desert Island Discs’ experience is completed for each Resident so that they can select their favourite music tracks, luxury item and book and be interviewed and recorded. These recordings are placed on to a USB for the Resident, their Family members and Friends to enjoy and keep.
